  • Remanufacturing the Brother HL-1110 Series Drum Cartridge DR-1030/1050

The machines come standard with 1Mb of memory, and all run off a 200 MHz processor. With an extremely low cost for this machine, these machines have become very popular.

    There are no reset gears or chips used in these drums. Machine drum reset procedures are listed at the end of these instructions

    The printers in this series are the:

    HL-1110
    HL-1111
    HL-1112W
    HL-1212W
    HL-1118
    HL-1210
    DCP1512
    DCP1512W
    DCP1612
    DCP1612W

    Required Tools

    Toner approved vacuum.

    Small Common jewelers Screwdriver

    E-ring tool, Needle nose pliers, or small flat head screwdriver

    Required Supplies

    Replacement drum

    Lint free cotton cloths

    Toner magnet cloths

    99% Isopropyl Alcohol

    Cotton or Foam cleaning swabs


    1) Vacuum the exterior of the cartridge.

    2) With the drum facing you, remove the “E” ring on the left side of the drum axle. See Figure 1

    3) Remove the axle from the right side. See Figure 2

    4) Slide the Corona Wire cleaner away from the home position to unlock it. See Figure 3

    5) Remove the Corona Wire Assembly. See Figure 4

    6) Remove the drum. See Figure 5

    7) Remove the cleaning roller. Lift up from the white bushing side. See Figure 6

    8) Blow off/vacuum any toner/paper dust from the cleaning roller.

    9) Clean the white and black cleaning roller bearings and the drum felt pad. See Figures 7 & 8

    10) Install the cleaning roller. See Figure 9

    11) Install the drum non gear side to felt pad. See Figure 10

    12) Clean the corona wire and corona wire grid with 99% Isopropyl alcohol. If using a cotton swab, make sure no fibers are left in the grid! See Figures 11 & 12

    13) Install the Corona Wire assemble so that the black plastic tabs fit over the outside of the drum cartridge. See Figures 13 &14

    14) Install the drum axle from the Non gear side of the cartridge. The Axle is the same on both ends and can be reversed. See Figure 15

    15) Install the E-ring on the drum axle. See Figure 16

    16) Slide the corona wire cleaner over so it is in its home position, (arrows aligned). See Figure 17

    Cartridge Troubleshooting

    Dark black line usually about ¼” wide running vertically down the page. The built-in Corona Wire cleaner is probably not in its “Home position” (Right side of the cartridge, the arrow on the cleaner should line up with the arrow on the cartridge. See Figure 17 If the cleaner is in the home position, the corona wire and/or grid is dirty.

    Resetting the drum counter:

    HL-1110 series

    1. Open the front cover.
    2. Press the power button 4x (See Figure 18)

    3. Close the front cover of the machine.
    4. Make sure the Drum LED is now off.

    HL-1110 MFC/DCP series
    1. Open the front cover.
    2. Press the Menu button
    3. Press the up arrow until you see Machine Info on the display
    4. Press OK
    5. Press the up arrow until you see Reset Drum
    6. Press the OK button for 3 seconds
    7. Reset drum will show on the display. Press the up arrow to accept
    8. Close the front cover of the machine.
